As many of us know, a key part of the USDA eligibility process is being able to find a home that is located in a USDA eligible area. In today’s video, I will walk you through the process on how to find out if the home you want to buy is located in a USDA eligible area.

How do you search for USDA eligible homes?
As a quick update, USDA is in the process of finalizing their review of certain areas that will no longer be eligible under the USDA program. This review is scheduled to be completed by March 1st, 2018 along with updated area eligibility maps being published.
Once this become available, I will keep everyone up to date on which areas have been impacted along with further timing details.
Now, I realize there are certain counties that are currently completely eligible for the USDA program, but because of the pending review, it is good practice to know how to search for a USDA eligible home just in case you are working in areas where portions are and are not eligible.
For example purposes, let’s use the city of Land O Lakes FL for our eligibility search.
- You can access the USDA Property Eligibility page directly by clicking on the USDA Eligible Properties Search at the top of my blog or by clicking here.
- Next, click on “Single Family Housing Guaranteed” in the left hand corner;
- Then you will click on the “Accept” button in the lower right hand corner.
- Finally, you will enter the property address you are searching for and click the “go” button to the right.
Now as you can see by this search, the property is located in an eligible area.
However, if you go slightly to the east of this address, it become ineligible very quickly, so when looking at properties that are close to ineligible areas, having this eligibility map at your disposal is critical for success!
